We didn't know that New Pages was going to review uur second issue, The Birth Issue, but we're sure glad they did! They gave us a great one, noting the way our stories share something "intimate yet universal."

Hey, we finally have another interview for you to read! It's with Kirby Larson, whose young adult novel, Hattie Big Sky, won the 2007 Newberry Award.

And, author Marc Acito, whom we interviewed here has a new book out. It's called Attack of the Theater People, and continues the zaniness of How I Paid for College.

Poet Oni Buchanan, whom we interviewed here, has had her second poetry manuscript, Spring, chosen by Mark Doty as a winner in the National Poetry Series Open Competition! It will be published by the University of Illinois Press in 2008.

If you're interested in hearing some Thereby Hangs a Tale authors read their work, save the afternoon of August 5, 2007! Come to a family-friendly afternoon of readings, book arts demonstration, and a bookswap to benefit two Portland organizations, Write Around Portland and the 100th Monkey Studio. It will take place on August 5, 2007 from 2-6 p.m. at the 100th Monkey Studio, 110 SE 16th in Portland, OR.

The readings will begin at 2:30 with Portland-based contributors to The Expat Issue and the brand-new Birth Issue sharing some of their most recent work. Admission is free with the donation of a blank journal for Write Around Portland or small gift to the 100th Monkey Scholarship Fund. There will also be a kids' space and snacks! Don't forgot to bring your books to trade. Guaranteed to be a fun afternoon!

Happy Summer!

We've had some people e-mail us asking when the theme for Issue Four will be posted. Don't worry! It will be soon. We're toying around with a few ideas and plan to settle on one soon. We're also putting the final editorial touches on The Birth Issue before it goes to print, so look for that in the very near future as well!

If you're into reality TV, you may remember that we interviewed reality TV producer, Kevin Lee last year. His latest show, Adventures in Hollyhood debuts tonight on MTV. It follows the adventures of Three 6 Mafia, the hip-hop group that won the 2006 Academy Award for Best Song, as they move from their home base of Memphis, TN to LA and attempt to make it in Tinseltown.

April 26 will mark the twentieth anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. While you might expect that the accident site is devoid of life, that's not the case. The area, according to Mary Mycio, author of Wormwood Forest: A Natural History of Chernobyl, is full of plants and animals.

We've officially closed submissions for our expatriate-themed Issue One. Thanks to everybody who submitted. We got some great material, much more in fact, that we can use. So, we'll be spending the next couple weeks finalizing what is going into the issue. If you haven't heard from us yet, be patient a little longer. You will very soon.

We've also chosen a theme for our Fall/Winter 2006 issue. While we're not accepting submissions yet, if you'd like to take a look at the theme to get those creative juices flowing, go right ahead!

As always, we're taking submissions for our current photo story.

We've closed submissions for our first story for our Show and Tale section! Thanks to everyone who sent something in. We enjoyed reading the tales, and we'll be posting the two we chose the week of Jan. 9. Don't worry if you missed your chance because we have another photo, Dead Slow, that awaits its tales.

Also, in the next week or so, watch for new interviews and book reviews.
